Twelfth Chancery Court District, Mississippi

I served as Chancery Court Judge for the Twelfth Chancery Court District of Mississippi from January 1, 1995
to December 31, 2006. Mississippi has a separation of law and equity, and Chancery is the equity court. Chancellors conduct primarily bench trials on all matters in equity, including, but not limited to, cases concerning trusts, estates, guardianships, conservatorships, and other probate matters, divorces, child custody, adoptions, contract
enforcement, business disputes, accountings, civil commitments for mental disorders, as well as, drug and
alcohol abuse, juvenile delinquency, and abuse and neglect cases. A Chancellor is required to write a detailed
opinion on each case tried, setting out findings of fact and conclusions of law. My work on the bench included
conducting the trials, making rulings on evidence and motions, and concluding with an opinion, either rendered
orally from the bench or taken underconsideration and rendered in due course. The Chancery Court also has
jurisdiction over administrative appeals from entities such as the School Board.
